Design as one piece
Set and light are the same problem. Where the scenery sits decides where the light can come from; the trim height decides whether a back light is dramatic or blinding. Designing both together avoids the familiar compromise of lighting a set that left nowhere to put the lights.

Drawn properly
A proposal is easier to approve when it can be seen. Concept renders show the producer what the show will feel like; CAD drawings show the crew what to build and where it goes. Both matter — one sells the idea, the other makes it happen on the day.
